A California animal rescue garnered attention online for seeking a home for Luna, a pit bull with a severe facial deformity that causes difficulties in breathing and eating. Luna was brought to a shelter at only 7 weeks old with a fractured skull and broken jaw, facing euthanasia on the same day. However, thanks to the efforts of Cage to Couch, a nonprofit rescue organization, Luna was saved.
Luna’s deformity made it challenging for her to breathe and eat properly, with Mary Pryor from Cage to Couch explaining that she struggled to breathe through her mouth as a puppy. She had difficulty eating and would occasionally faint, but with the aid of the rescue and the team at University Veterinary Center, Luna’s strength gradually improved with each passing day.
While Luna will require additional surgeries and medical care, Pryor remains hopeful that someone will show compassion towards Luna and provide this “sweet and sensitive” pup with a caring home.
Luna, a pit bull mix, was rescued at just 7 weeks old and has been in foster care for a few months now. The rescue organization is hoping to find a loving home for Luna, who has been through a lot.
According to Pryor, Luna had a severe nasal infection that required hospitalization and made it hard for her to breathe, eat, and even caused her to faint. She has a cleft palate, which will need surgery to repair. Food and bacteria enter where they shouldn’t, causing constant nasal infections.
Despite all her challenges, Luna has made progress since being rescued. However, she still has nights where she struggles to breathe. Putting a finger in her mouth to hold it open helps her relax and fall asleep.
Pryor mentioned that Luna still has difficulties due to her deformity. She makes sounds like a raptor, struggles with breathing, eating, and chewing. The rescue team does their best to ensure Luna can eat without problems caused by the hole in her mouth.
Luna the pit bull had a rough start after being surrendered, but thanks to Cage to Couch, she was saved from being euthanized. Despite her challenging past, Luna is a playful pup who enjoys running around, going for walks, and having fun with her foster siblings, two blind senior beagles and another beagle battling cancer. She is gentle with her furry friends but dreams of finding her forever family.
According to Pryor, Luna would thrive in a home with other dogs and is even good with cats. While a fenced yard would be ideal, Luna is learning leash manners and basic commands quickly. Despite some negative feedback due to her appearance and breed, the rescue is committed to giving Luna the training and socialization she needs to show that she can be a loving companion.
Pryor acknowledges that people may judge Luna unfairly due to her pit bull mix and facial deformity, but they are determined to help her overcome any prejudices. By continuing her training and socializing her with other dogs, they hope to change perceptions and find Luna a loving forever home.
Luna, who is currently 7 months old and living in a foster home, will eventually require surgery to fix her cleft palate. However, the surgeons have decided to wait until she is fully grown before they proceed with the operation. The animal rescue organization regularly posts videos of their new animals on social media platforms like TikTok, hoping to garner support and find loving homes for the animals. Luna has captured the hearts of many online followers and has become quite popular on TikTok. One video of Luna, posted on March 7, has already garnered over 1.8 million views and 196,700 likes. Despite still waiting for a permanent home, Luna’s online fans adore her sweet nature. The comments on her videos are always incredibly positive, with one user writing, “This video absolutely melted my heart.” Another person commented, “You have a beautiful girl who has stolen my heart instantly.” And yet another user exclaimed, “I love a puppy with a goofy appearance.” Luna’s presence on social media has definitely made her a fan favorite, and people just can’t seem to get enough of her.
